Dave Matthews Band debuts new song: "Seven"
Last night in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dave Matthews Band played new song “Seven” from the upcoming album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Since the start of the Spring Tour on April 14th, DMB have been playing new songs from Big Whiskey at every show. The first new songs to debut on the tour were “Funny The Way It Is”, “Spaceman” and “Why I Am”. They have been played at every show since.
“Seven” marks the forth song off the new album to be performed live and the album has yet to be officially released, but will be very soon on June 2nd.
Another new song to debut during the tour was “Beach Ball”, a b-side from the Big Whiskey album which will be available on the bonus disc included with the purchase of the Super Deluxe Edition.
In a recent review of Big Whiskey, Bob Lefsetz described Seven as quote:
“"Seven", ironically cut 10, has got a lick straight off of "Exile On Main Street". It twists in between repetition of this riff, but the cut's got a creativity closer to the Stones opus, something from side 3, than what's conventionally aired on the radio. "Seven" is what you play when you're tanked up and raging, whether in the frat house in the early morning hours or at the gig.”
We have yet to hear the studio cut of “Seven”, but for now you can form you own opinion based on the recent live performance.
The Spring tour raps up this weekend in Las Vegas, NV and as the Summer tour and the new album approaches we can expect to see more performance of “Seven” and many other songs from, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.
What do you think of the new song?
